About Super Dave

I started racing motocross rather late, in 1989, but have owned a dirt bike since 1976, hence my number 76. Early on I helped out at different tracks getting things ready for race day. I took a tractor out to the Devon track to help with grooming for theirs and my first race. It was on the May long weekend and was about the most miserable conditions possible. It was extremely muddy and started snowing half way through my moto. A lot of riders decided not to race but I stuck it out and finished 5th in the novice 125 class (out of 5) and got a trophy for my efforts. My first time at the Antler lake track, I was pumped to be able to ride the national track. I started helping with watering and other race day tasks. I took my tractor out with a cultivator and it did an excellent job grooming the track. In the early nineties I was asked if my bobcat could do anything to improve a few parts of the track. For the next 11 years or so, my tractor and bobcat were almost permanent fixtures at Antler Lake doing track prep for the Edmonton Motorcycle Club (EMC) and Alberta Oldtimers M-X club (AOTMX) who put on the events. I was appointed to the executive of the AOTMX in charge of track prep. Many people's jaws dropped when I took the bobcat and headed down the steep "wagon hill" smoothing it out as I went. I guess my biggest accomplishment was working out a deal with the 2 clubs and hauling about 300 yards of sand to Antler Lake, which was in preparation for 1999 Alberta round of the Canadian National Campionship. The track was incredible! I also did the track prep for the 2000 National and not only received the President's award at the AOTMX banquet but was shocked to have been presented with a full set of new riding gear. At one of the 2 day races I made the mistake of leaving my bike at the track. I couldn't find it right away the next day because it had mysteriously found its way 15 ft. up the Honda tower! I have also done track work at the Bruderheim track and Bud Park (now Castrol Raceway) and took a small Cat out to Redwater to groom trails for the Alberta Off Highway Vehicle Association. I've tried to use this experience in planning my own facilty. I hope you enjoy it.
